A key component that enables effective installation of PPR plumbing are the wide range of compatible PPR pipe fittings available. PPR Fittings are what allow PPR pipes to be joined together and routed in different directions to construct complete water distribution systems.

Before diving into PPR pipe fittings specifically, let's start with some key facts about PPR pipes:

  • PPR stands for polypropylene random copolymer, a thermoplastic resin that is corrosion proof, flexible, and can withstand high temperatures and pressures.

  • PPR pipes are manufactured in standard diameters like 20mm, 25mm, 32mm, and up to 160mm for different flow requirements.

  • PPR is joined using a heat fusion process that softens pipe ends and presses them into socket fittings to create leak-proof joints.

  • PPR fittings such as elbows, tees, adapters, etc. enable pipes to be routed in different directions to construct a piping system.

  • Using compatible PPR fittings manufactured by the pipe brand is crucial to achieve proper fusion and prevent leaks.

There are a wide variety of PPR fittings available for system construction:

PPR Socket Fittings

The most common type of fitting used to join PPR pipes are socket fittings. As the name suggests, these fittings have a socket design that receives and fuses with the end of a PPR pipe.

Socket Elbows

PPR socket elbows are available in 90 degree and 45 degree configurations to enable piping to bend around corners and obstacles. 90 degree elbows are the most commonly used.

PPR 90 Degree Elbow Fitting

The elbow has a straight socket on one end to connect to a length of PPR pipe. On the bend, there is a socket angled at 90 or 45 degrees to receive another section of pipe and change direction.

Socket elbows provide strong, leak-free joints while allowing flexibility in routing pipes. They are essential components for constructing a PPR piping system.

Socket Tees

Another key fitting is the socket tee, used to branch service off the main pipeline. Socket tees have three openings:

  • One straight socket to continue the straight pipe run

  • One outlet socket angled 90 degrees to branch off

  • One inlet socket opposite the outlet to connect the supply pipe

PPR Socket Tee Fitting

These allow smaller branch lines or fixture connections to be made anywhere along a main water supply line.

Socket Adapters

A socket adapter is used to transition between different socket sizes or pipe types.

Common configurations include:

  • PPR to copper adapter

  • PPR to PVC adapter

  • Reducer bushing to adapt between different PPR pipe diameters

Having a full range of socket adapters enables integration of PPR piping with existing plumbing systems that may use other materials.

Socket Unions

A PPR socket union fitting allows two sections of pipe to be connected, disconnected, and reconnected repeatedly for maintenance.

They consist of three pieces - two threaded socket tail pieces and a center threaded union ring. The union can be disconnected without having to heat fuse the joint again.
